Hydraulic fracturing or Fracking as it is better known is the process of using a certain combination of fluids that exerts a large amount of pressure on the rock at depths where natural gas and oil can be found. The fractures are usually positioned perpendicular to the wellbore because that is the origin point of where the fluids are used. There is also the use of proppants which is usually some form of silica which help in keeping the cracks open.
